Flight Attendant Gwen Rodriguez Goes Above & Beyond

Turbulence can often make even the most experienced flyers nervous.  However, for those who are anxious flyers under the best of circumstances, turbulence can be a nerveracking experience.  We received the below note from Poppy Harlow, a CNN news anchor, who told us how Flight Attendant Gwen Rodriguez comforted her during a rough air on a recent flight:

I just wanted to let you know what a wonderful experience I had on my flight from Cleveland to LGA last night. There was a lot of turbulence and I am a nervous flyer.  Flight Attendant Gwen was so immensely helpful.  She talked me through my fear, sat next to me, and helped calm me.  She went above and beyond to make me feel safe. I really appreciate all she did–it meant the world to me. Just wanted to share my experience.  She made me ever more loyal to Delta!

The GoJet Airlines Above & Beyond program is a quarterly contest that recognizes employees who go above and beyond what’s expected of them to provide outstanding service to our passengers. Gwen’s willingness to go out of her way to set this passenger’s mind at ease makes her a perfect example of the above and beyond spirit, and she was entered in the third quarter contest in the Inflight category.  The leadership team is currently reviewing third quarter contest submissions, and winners will be announced soon!

First Quarter Above & Beyond Winners Announced

Congratulations to our First Quarter 2015 Above & Beyond winners!  This was our biggest quarter for Above & Beyond participation to date—we received 68 nominations this quarter, far surpassing nomination totals from all previous quarters.  We are excited that so many of you took the time to tell us about the extraordinary things your co-workers are doing!

This quarter also marks the first time that we are rewarding those who nominated their co-workers, in addition to the winners.  In the case of multiple nominations for the same individual, we either selected the nomination that did the best job of describing a co-worker’s above and beyond actions (i.e. went into extensive detail about a particular event, described how a co-workers actions exceeded their regular job responsibilities, etc.) or, in the case of multiple nominations that were equally specific, we randomly drew a submission from the eligible nominations.

Corporate/Station Employee: Bruce Kustes & Michael Jones                                     Nominated by:  Lester Schuetz, GoJet Quality Assurance

Bruce and Michael were our on-site inspectors for the United Wi-Fi prototype at DFW.  They were required to work long hours for 7 days a week for the duration of the modification, and acted in the capacities of Inspector, Company Liaison, Parts Receiving Inspector and Ramrod.  Bruce and Michael did a great job, and the end result was a quality product.

Flight Ops:  Larry Balocca
Nominated by:  Pamela Hamlett, Flight Ops

Pamela who told us how Larry helped an elderly woman on his flight after the woman’s wheelchair assistance did not arrive and she was going to miss her connecting flight.  Larry found a wheelchair and took her, along with her bags and dog, to the gate of her next flight.  Larry went above and beyond the call of duty and represented the company in an outstanding way.

Inflight:  Edmond Sanjines                                                                                   Nominated by:  Lisa Krawczyk, Inflight

Lisa saw Edmond assist two elderly women by carrying their luggage down the stairs at the airport, then going back up and escorting them down.  When Lisa inquired as to whether the escalator was broken, Edmond said the escalator wasn’t, but that the women were scared to use it.  Edmond took the initiative to help others, even when it wasn’t required of him.

SOC:  Ben Dunbar                                                                                                   Nominated by:  Jancer Thomas, RDU MX

Jancer Thomas who told us how Ben Dunbar is always the consummate professional, continually going the extra mile to ensure that the outstations have all the support they need.  His system knowledge is beyond compare, and on multiple occasions, he has been the saving grace that has prevented departure delays.

Maintenance:  Rebecca Luer                                                                                   Nominated by:  Randy Berkbigler, GoJet Quality Assurance

Rebecca was nominated by Randy Berkbigler, who told us how Rebecca has a positive and energetic attitude, and always gets the job done, no matter what the circumstances.  Recently, Rebecca was in Fresno, CA performing a Repair Station Maintenance Provider Audit when she was asked if she could do an additional audit the following day at another vendor, 350 miles away.  Rebecca immediately asked when and where she needed to go.  Regarding Rebecca, Randy said, “Her self-initiative and forward thinking are traits that I admire.  She is definitely a vertebrae in the backbone of the GoJet Airlines team!”

Team/Flight Crew:  First Officer Justin Zeller & Flight Attendant Hillary Eaton             Nominated by:  Nikki Lutz, Flight Ops/Corporate

Justin and Hillary mobilized GoJet employees and our passengers to show their support for five-year-old Seth Lane by participating in “Wear Yellow for Seth.”  Seth suffers from Severe Combined Immunodeficiency Disease (SCID) and underwent his second bone marrow transplant on March 27.  As Seth’s favorite color is yellow, his family requested that everyone wear yellow on the day of his surgery and share the photos via social media.  Justin and Hillary rose to the occasion, not only recruiting GoJet employees to participate in the cause, but our passengers as well.  What a great way to create a positive relationship with co-workers, inspire teamwork, and most importantly, make a little boy smile.

Each winner will receive a $50 Visa gift card, and the person who nominated will receive a $25 Visa gift card.  We will be giving away $550 worth of gift cards this quarter!

Congratulations to Heather Brown, the GoJet Airlines Employee of the Year!

After reviewing the nominations of each employee who won an Above & Beyond award in 2014, the leadership team has selected Heather Brown in the GoJet SOC as the 2014 Employee of the Year.

Heather was the third quarter Above & Beyond winner in the SOC category. Heather’s co-workers told us how she frequently comes in on her days off when the SOC is short or when the operation is in need. One of Heather’s colleagues told us about a time when she returned from training in MSP to assist the SOC after the Chicago tower fire, even though she was not required to do so.

“Heather has been a valuable asset to the Scheduling Department, the SOC and GoJet Airlines, said Adam Timperley,” Manager of Crew Scheduling.  “She has been instrumental in the testing and implementation project for converting GoJet’s scheduling software from Sabre to Lufthansa, and is always willing to help the other departments in the SOC.  Heather has also taken some of her off time to plan and execute team building exercises for the SOC, including bringing in food for the staff on holidays.”

We are proud that Heather is a member of our team and of the exemplary way that she represents GoJet. As a token of our appreciation for her above and beyond service in 2014, Heather will receive a $500 Visa gift card.

Fourth Quarter 2015 Above & Beyond Winners

Congratulations to our Fourth Quarter 2015 Above & Beyond winners!

Flight Ops: Kevin Weaver
Kevin was nominated by a fellow GoJet pilot, who told us how Kevin went above and beyond to help out on the flight deck while sitting in the jumpseat during his commute home. Due to a number of issues, this particular flight was delayed due to crew availability. Kevin, who was allowed access to the aircraft by the gate agent, printed the flight release and loaded the flight details into the aircraft navigation system, allowing another pilot to communicate with the passengers at the gate. The flight ultimately took a 40 minute delay, and would have been additionally delayed had Kevin not stepped up to help out on his day off.

Later in the flight, Kevin again took the initiative to assist the flight crew when they encountered a jammed slats issue. Without being asked, Keven opened the proper emergency checklist and read it aloud as the crew prepared for landing.

Inflight: Tamyra Blackmon
We received an e-mail from a customer who told us that he left his iPad on the aircraft after a flight to JFK and that Tanya went to extraordinary lengths to return it to him. After an airport page to the customer went unanswered, she left him a voicemail and sent him a text advising him that she had his property. She then turned the iPad over to a Delta supervisor and provided the customer with the supervisor’s name, employee number and contact info. Our customer was then able to pick up the iPad from the Delta supervisor without incident. This passenger was very impressed with Tamyra’s diligence and commitment to providing exceptional service.

Maintenance: Bradley Sliger
Bradley was nominated by a maintenance co-worker who told us how he strives for perfection in every maintenance action he performs. Additionally, Brad is quick to volunteer to take on new tasks and to assist with the training of new mechanics. His constant smile and upbeat attitude makes working with him enjoyable.

SOC: Benjamin Dunbar
Benjamin received multiple nominations from co-workers who said that he always goes out of his way to help others and to ensure that tasks are completed correctly.

Corporate/Station Employee: Chris May
Chris was nominated by a GoJet manager who told us how Chris worked for several months on new Computer Based Training for pilots regarding the proper use of the ship’s logbook. Thanks to Chris’ excellent work, the FAA told Flight Operations that the project had been “very nicely done.” That type of comment from the FAA after just one look is rare, and thanks to Chris, this important project was completed to the FAA’s satisfaction.

Team/Flight Crew: Anastasia Sotiropoulos, Jaclyn Hughes and Zoey Panos
We received an e-mail from a customer who told us about the great Inflight service he received from Anastasia, Jaclyn and Zoey. This customer was impressed by their smiles, courtesy and by the number of times they stopped by his seat to check him. He was also especially impressed by a handwritten note he received from the three of them thanking him for flying with us. This is a great example of how a small gesture can go a long way to impress our customers.

Each winner will receive a $50 Visa gift card and will be entered in the Employee of the Year contest. The Employee of the Year will receive a $500 Visa gift card!

Flight Attendant Stephanie Rebro Goes Above & Beyond

A big thanks to Flight Attendant Stephanie Rebro for providing outstanding service to our passengers!

This evening, I had the pleasure of taking a flight from DEN to ABW (flight number 8627).   I must admit that my flight experience was enhanced by the upgrade to First Class (thank you for that!).   But more importantly it was enhanced due to outstanding  service and an absolute attention to customer service by Ms. Stephanie Rebro.   During the flight, a pressure balancing valve started making an unusual noise, and Stephanie assured all of the passengers.    In addition, she was friendly, approachable, and mature.    She was completely devoted to making sure that her passengers had enjoyable experience with United Airlines.

I run a business unit that does over $1 billion in gross revenue in engineering and construction.   I can assure you that Stephanie is immensely employable, and I would only ask that you recognize and reward her attitude and loyalty to your company and the passengers on United Airlines.

You should also note that Stephanie’s first flight attendant, Mary K worked very hard during the short flight, with an amazing friendly attitude toward service during our short flight from DIA to ABQ.

Stephanie will be entered in the 1st quarter Above & Beyond contest and is in the running to win a $50 Visa gift card. Way to go, Stephanie!

Flight Attendant Joe Camelliri Consistently Goes the Extra Mile

In-flight Manager Calvin White submitted this 4th Quarter Above & Beyond nomination for Flight Attendant Joe Camelliri.  Here’s what Calvin had to say:

Joe Camelliri takes pride in his work as a Flight Attendant. He always shows up with a friendly smile, along with his freshly pressed uniform and military shined shoes!  Joe has taken the liberty to place mirrors along with positive wording beside them in the STL crew room, which reminds the crew to take a good look at themselves before walking out the door.  This, along with the numerous “A Job Well Done” cards he brings in, shows how Joe Camelliri really goes above and beyond.  Great Job!

Amazing employees like Joe are what make this company great!  Thanks for all that you do, Joe.
